Sara M. Simmers
MS Thesis Title
Recovery of Semi-arid Grassland on Recontoured and Revegetated Oil Access Roads.
Current job description
During the growing season, I spend most days in the prairies, wetlands, and few and far between woodlands of the northern plains. My job mostly involves surveys of some form or another: searching for plants, assessing potential habitat, documenting flora, etc. for either proposed development projects (wind, oil, associated roads) or for government or conservation agency studies. Being involved in research and monitoring studies is most fulfilling to me, but my work for projects associated with development may be more important on a larger scale, since at this level alterations or improvements in development plans to accommodate or consider conservation strategies may make a more immediate difference.
