Janell Balmaceda

The focus of my research is the hybridization of Phragmites australis between the European and North American lineages. I am examining the role of global change in heterosis. My research aims to take advantage of the window of opportunity for Phragmites invasion containment. My investigation will advance prediction of how the native, invasive and hybrid taxa will fare under conditions of elevated resource availability and soil disturbance, which has implications for the future conservation of the genetically distinct North American subspecies and for the future structure and function of regional wetlands.
