Research

I will be collaborating with Voyageurs Nation Park (VNP) to investigate the impacts of hunting on wolves that use VNP, MN. Wolves were delisted from the Endangered Species Act in the Great Lakes area in 2011 and Minnesota conducted a wolf hunting season during 2012 and 2013 before wolves were relisted in 2014. Protected areas like national parks are meant to protect the wildlife populations within their borders. However, as large animals move in and out of these protected zones they are susceptible to hunting. I hope to use GIS to see how wolf packs that had territories in VNP, and especially packs that only partially used the park, were impacted by hunting.
